Transport Car Overseas

When you are faced with moving your car across country, it is most often the case that you have a choice. You can transport it or drive it. When you transport a car overseas, the choice is gone. You can not drive it there.

When you need to transport a car overseas, regardless of your reason, the option of driving it yourself is gone. Fortunately, there is a very good network of car transport companies that specialize in overseas transport. Just about any destination in the world can be reached and at a cost that is rather surprisingly reasonable. Although most of the normal concerns of in-country exist in overseas transport, there are some additional ones that must be considered

The normal concerns of a transport are there. This is especially true if the vehicle is going to be picked up locally and transported to the terminal. The vehicle must be in operating condition and not carrying personal effects. You must make a good inspection and make sure you have documented the condition before pickup. These are the basic needs of any transport. The difference with an overseas transport is that you will be dealing with another Government and its laws and regulations.

It is difficult to list in a short space exactly what these regulations might be because each country tends to be different and the regulations are subject to change. In order to be sure of what is necessary in the way of paperwork and exactly what import taxes you might have to pay, there are two things to do. One is to rely on your selected transport company. This is just another reason why you should deal with a company with experience in overseas transport and a good reputation. The experienced company will provide you with the exact information you need and what additional problems or expenses might be encountered depending on your destination.

You do not have to totally trust the information from the transport company. You can contact the consulate of the country you are transferring your car to and ask them what is required. This double checking is recommended. If everything jives, you have no problem. If there is something overlooked by the transport company, you are prepared. If you are counting on having your vehicle when you arrive, it is better to know of any little surprises before you get there.

The overseas transport industry does have an excellent record regarding safety and security for your vehicle. This is encouraging. Vehicles are transported in enclosed containers and generally arrive with no ill effects from weather or the sea. This does not mean that you can neglect insurance. Make sure that you have ample insurance and that you have proof of your vehicles condition at time of pickup. Also, unless you are very, very, rich, try to allow as much time as possible for the shipping. Your quoted price will reflect the ability of the transport company to schedule your transport on their own best timetable. Rush or emergency shipments are costly.
